I don’t know how many emails I get asking “What do we wear for our portrait/engagement session?!”, so I thought I’d throw out some helpful hints:
What to avoid:
#1. Large writing (unless you want the writing to be a focal point in your pictures. Example: a “bump” shirt for a maternity shoot)
#2. Big Logos.
#3. Extremely busy graphics (i.e. Ed Hardy Tee’s- sorry Ed.)
#4. Everyone in plain black tops… cuddle up, and you’ll look like one big black blob.
#5. Everyone in plain white tops. See #4.
Looks that work:
#1. Adding a splash of color with a vibrant scarf, bold shoes, or chunky earrings.
#2. Textures, simple patterns, and bright colors all photograph really well.
#3. Coordinating colors instead of matching everyone perfectly.
#4. Layers!
#5. Wearing something that makes you feel beautiful!
Here are a couple examples to get the wheels turning…
This is such a cute idea!! Love it! 🙂
LOVE THIS! Wish I’d seen it about a week ago, before you got the “Brown” family! I was at a loss!
I LOVE this!!! Great idea!!
Charkie- you guys looked GREAT! (and I’m so in love with your boys, by the way!)
Great idea posting the pictures! That helps so much!!
Great post and I LOVE the photos – they’re so cute!!!
I may well link to this, if you don’t mind, from my blog?
Wouldn’t mind at all Eliza. 🙂
this has to be the most creative way i’ve ever seen someone give “what to wear” advice. i love how the mom in the second photo is even holding the baby. i can see the people in the clothes – that’s great!
Kristin, this is so unbelievably cute and creative. Very very helpful post. You’re going to get a lot of traffic from photographers like me who point our clients to this. You simply rock.
Hah. LOVE the idea, Kristen. My couples are always asking me about clothing 🙂
Hehehe!! Love it! What a clever way to give people ideas!
